The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has given approval for the upgrade of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere and construction of eight mini stadia across the state.
The Governor made this known when he hosted athletes that represented Lagos at the recent National Sports Festival in Edo State and those that will represent Nigeria at the Tokyo Olympics.

Addressing the Athletes, Mr Sanwo-Olu said the upgrade of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere is “to make it a standardised sport centre, ” adding that the construction of eight new mini-stadia across the State is aimed at improving youth participation in sports.

“Our youths have brighter days ahead and I enjoin them not to give up on their skills. There is a  reward for talent, diligence and perseverance,” the Governor said.
Sanwo-Olu assured the athletes that “this would be a new beginning for sports development as I just assented to the amended Sport Commission Law, which was initiated to promote sporting activities in the grassroots.”
At the ceremony, cash cheques were presented to the state’s representatives at the National Sport Festival, with medalists going home with cheques ranging from N300,000 to N5 million.
Ahmed Koleosho, a para-table tennis athlete and Lagos team captain, who is also billed for the Tokyo Olympic Games, received a cheque of N2.5 million prize.
