Urhobo Historical Society holds 13th Conference, AGM July 26-27, 2024

New York, NY – The Editorial & Management Committee of the Urhobo Historical Society (UHS) proudly announces its 13th Annual Conference and Annual General Membership Meeting, slated for July 26-27, 2024. This prestigious event, which has Olorogun Dr. Aruegodore Oyiborhorho, the UHS President as Chief Host; and Mrs. Julie Riesa as Chair of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) will take place at the New York University Stern School of Business Conference Hall, located at 44 West 4th Street, New York 10012.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Aspects of Urhobo Culture: Folklore & Poetry, Music, Language, Cosmology, Religion.” It will be chaired by Olorogun (Dr.) Moses Taiga, JP, CON, former President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide,  and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Urhobo Historical Society Endowment Fund.

Delivering the keynote address is Prof. Tanure Ojaide from the University of Northern Carolina, Charlotte, USA., while lead papers was be presented by Onoawarie Edevbie, and Prof. Rose Aziza, FNAL, among others

  • 11:00 am – 1:00 pm: Plenary Session (3 Plenary Papers)
  • 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm: Lunch Break, Urhobo Exhibition, and Dance Group
  • 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm: Paper Presentations (Two Concurrent Sessions, 5 papers per session)
  • 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm: Closing Ceremony
    • Gala Night – Dinner, Awards, Re-launch of Endowment Fund
    • Closing Remarks & Vote of Thanks
