The Founder and National Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria, Prof. Dickson Ameh Akoh, has declared his intention to contest the Governorship of Benue State in the 2023 General Elections.

Prof. Akoh made his aspiration known at his Ward, Ugboju Icho, in Otukpo Local Government Area, during an event organised by 3G Support Group, an advocacy and political organisation pushing for Akoh’s Gubernatorial ambition.

Declaring his entry into the 2023 Governorship  race, Prof. Ekoh, who also goes by the title, Oyachaba k’ Idoma,  said  his aspiration came out of deep reflection on the challenges confronting Benue State and her people. He said after extensive consultation at various levels, he has decided that his being Governor of the State will enable him to bear his wealth of  experience in solving the various challenges of Benue State.

“We all must put our hands together to ensure that we put a system in place that works for the security of the future of our Children and dear State. It begins with a firm resolve to stand by the right leadership to bring all the solutions we seek to us,” the grassroot politician said.

The event, chaired by Hon. Chief Godwin Ugboju, had in attendance eminent sons and politicians in the State, including Hon. Dr Innocent Onuh , Alhaji Usman Abubakar, Chief Godwin Ugboju, Hon Nelson Alapa, among others.

U-Metro gathered that the Peace Corps Commandant is vying for the Benue Governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, speaking on Akoh’s governorship aspiration, a public commentator and Benue son, Mr Samuel Uloko Alechenu”described Prof Akoh as a “man respected for his contributions to the society as well his political and ideological foresight. He is a comet that appears once in a long while, a courageous soul, a disciplined mind, a shoulder for the weak and a voice for the voiceless.”

Alechenu noted that  “One of the dominant issues that have engaged the attention of Dr Dickson Akoh is the critical and urgent need for the State to have a new focus, new direction and new beginning for the industrial emancipation of Benue. Already a policy document for the revitalization of Benue moribund companies have been developed and the framework formed the tripod of the 3G Support Group for Prof Dickson Akoh’s Gubernatorial ambition.”

Born in 1973, Dickson Akoh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the University of Abuja, and was conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (Humanities), by the Commonwealth University, Belize, South America. He awarded a Professorship in Social Works by the Board of Regent and  Senate of Freedom University and Theology Seminary Pottstown, PA USA.
